This beautiful set with a japanese kushi (haircomb) and kogai (hairneedle) is complete in the original textile box. Amazing craftsmanship can be seen on the comb. Gold lacquer, mother-of-pearl and gold-colored dots give a wonderful decorative pattern. The flowers are in minimal relief and continue across the top of the comb to the likewise decorated back.
The design extend into the teeth. The hair needle (kogai) is in two-pieces and has a signature. He carefully crafted box is covered with textile with geometric patterns. With a metal plate as a hinge on both sides.
A sticker with info on the back. Dating: i find that difficult. Probably around 1930s, so late taisio period or early showa period. Condition: good, but the gold lacquer has disappeared here and there. It is visible, but not noticeable because it goes well with the decoration patterns. Box: 20 x 10 cm. 7.9 x 4 inches. Comb / kushi: 9 x 4.3 cm ca. 3.5 x 1.6 inch.
Hair needle / kogai: 15.5 cm. This item is made of gold lacquer.
